Welcome to Allen

The city of Allen is Midway between McKinney and Plano, and about half an hour northeast of downtown Dallas. It lies in southwestern Collin County city west of Lake Lavon Lake, east of Frisco and just above the Telecom Corridor. Its convenient location and unhurried pace makes the city especially appealing. Its population has nearly doubled to 77,465 residents since 2000.

The city, named after former Texas Attorney General Ebenezer Allen, was established in 1870 to serve as a railroad stop for the Houston and Texas Railroad. Today, its tree-lined streets, quiet neighborhoods, excellent schools, bountiful shopping areas, and cultural and entertainment scenes attract families relocating to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

Among the many residential developments taking shape is the master-planned community of Montgomery Farm. The development of 500 lush, wooded acres has won accolades from the North Central Texas Council of Governments for its sustainable, environmentally conscious design. Homes are priced from $250,000 to more than $1 million. The city’s overall median home is $215,990.

The quality of its schools is a key reason that families relocate here. Most of Allen is under the supervision of the Allen Independent School District, with some areas included in the Lovejoy, McKinney and Plano ISDs. Expansion Management Magazine has recognized the Allen ISD to be a Gold School District and Allen High School was named a Blue ribbon School in 2001-02 by the U.S. Department of Education.

The city has a total of 46 developed parks and nine undeveloped ones, 11 tennis courts, and two golf courses. The Chase Oaks Golf Course offers 27 holes of championship golf. The 18-hole Twin Creeks Golf Course was designed by Arnold Palmer.

The Don Rodenbaugh Natatorium is for bigger water lovers, and the spray-ground at Celebration Park is for younger children. Allen Station Park contains the state’s largest covered skate park, as well as an outdoor in-line hockey rink.

The 458,000 square-foot Allen Premium Outlets shopping center lures shopaholics. Others catch bit of at the Allen Philharmonic Symphony or the Allen Civic Ballet.
