A quiet, small-town kind of city near the edge of a lake, Coppell is the ideal place to raise a family and still enjoy the convenience of downtown Dallas – about a half hour northeast.
An estimated 39,175 people make their home in Coppell’s 14.94 square-mile area. Most of the city lies in Dallas County with a small northern area part of Denton County. Coppell’s proximity to the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport has spurred the development of the city’s commercial base.
The world’s third busiest airport is only around 20 minutes south of the city’s center. Also south of the city is the 800-acre North Lake, along with North Lake Park, while to the west is the 7,380-acre Grapevine Lake. The larger Lewisville Lake lies farther to the north.
Coppell is an easy access point to the city of Lewisville to the north, Grapevine to the southwest and Carrollton to the east. The cities of Flower Mound and Irving also are nearby.
The small farming community and railroad town incorporated as the city of Coppell in 1955.
Farms and pastures have given way to equally quiet residential neighborhoods and small-town charm. A strong sense of community exists and new residents are welcomed warmly.
Set in a rolling green landscape interspersed with streams and creeks, the city’s tree-lined neighborhoods are an attractive backdrop for homes.
Its park system encompasses 116 acres. There’s an Aquatic and Recreation Center as well as a public golf course, tennis center, fitness facility, a community garden and a Farmer’s Market held every Saturday.
Homebuyers who must commute favor Coppell for its convenience – the city has direct access to Highways 635, 121 and 35. Professional athletes, (members of the Dallas Cowboys), live here due to its proximity to the nearby practice facilities at Valley Ranch.
The median house/condo value is $281,400. Families are drawn to Coppell for its excellent schools, which are under the supervision of three different districts depending on the area – the Coppell Independent School District, the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD and the Lewisville ISD. In 2007, the Texas Education Agency rated the Coppell ISD as “Recognized” (the second highest rating), while most of its campuses have been individually rated as “Exemplary.” Coppell High School and Coppell Middle School were also included in the Texas Business and Education Coalition’s 2006 Honor Roll.
Equally excellent are the Lewisville and Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISDs. Six of the Lewisville ISD’s schools have earned the National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence designation from the U.S. Department of Education.
In addition to the city’s educational excellence, families relocate to Coppell, due to its proximity to the boating, fishing, water-skiing and other water sport activities at the region’s two largest lakes.
