The Old and New West
Situated between Fort Worth and Dallas, the sprawling city of Irving in Dallas County is an anchor city in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. Fort Worth is only 20 minutes west and Dallas is 15 minutes to the east. It is an area of 67.7 square miles and has a population of about 200,000.
Irving is a city to be reckoned with. Its size and location make it a force in the Metroplex, due to its strong, diversified business base, its overall prosperity, the presence of well-known institutes of higher education and its array of cultural attractions and entertainment options.
The Las Colinas district is where you’ll find the iconic bronze equestrian sculpture, “Mustangs at Las Colinas,” by sculptor Robert Glen. Irving also is the home of Texas Stadium and the National Football League’s Dallas Cowboys.
Named after Washington Irving, one of the country’s earliest and most famous writers, the city of Irving wasn’t incorporated until 1952 even though it was on its way to cosmopolitan status with an influx of numerous businesses and the establishment of a number of institutions.
