Living the Good (and Green) Life in McKinney

McKinney’s wholesomeness includes environmental leadership and efforts in sustainable development.

Four environmentally friendly school campuses are in McKinney. In addition, the city is the site of West World Holdings’ McKinney Green Building, which has earned the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) platinum rating from the U.S. Green Building Council. It’s also home to Patt Lobb Toyota auto dealership – the first of its kind to be LEED-certified (silver rating). One of Wal-Mart’s two experimental sustainable stores is in McKinney.

A smorgasbord of recreational options are available, including more than 1,000 acres of city parks and approximately 30 miles of hiking and biking trails. You can enjoy the great outdoors in places like the Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary, Erwin Park, Finch Park and Splash Pad, Lake Lavon, Myers’ Park and Event Center, and the Towne Lake Recreation Area.

The city’s nine golf courses and indoor golf center are intoxicating to golfers fair-weather and all-weather golfers alike. Soccer, baseball, football and softball also are supported by the city.

The historic downtown district has everything from antique stores and boutiques to gourmet restaurants and performance venues like the McKinney Performing Arts Center.
